The Bothell High School football team continues to prove why it is one of the best programs in the state. Dayzell Wilson is also proving he is a big reason why they are the team to beat in 4A KingCo. The Cougars blasted Newport, 47-13, behind Wilson’s five touchdown receptions Friday night in Bellevue.

Bothell wasted no time getting on the board and used a little trickery to do so. A halfback pass from Sam McPherson to Wilson resulted in a 12-yard touchdown just 10 minutes into the game.

Newport’s next possession didn’t last long, as the Cougars forced a turnover on the Knight’s 23-yard line. Wilson caught his second touchdown pass of the game, this time from quarterback Ross Bowers from 25-yards out for the 14-0 lead.

But Newport was not willing to go quietly, cutting the Cougar lead in half during its next drive with a one-yard touchdown run.

Bothell’s ensuing drive went for 44 yards before the teams traded turnovers. Damien St. John-Watkins put an end to the tussle over the ball, as the junior running back walked the rock into the end zone with a 13-yard score.

Newport continued to battle back, driving down the field and scoring on a six-yard touchdown run to keep the game close 20-13.

But St. John-Watkins stole all the momentum from the Knights on the ensuing kickoff, returning the ball 78 yards for a touchdown and the 27-13 lead.

Wilson earned his third trip into the end zone on a pass reception from Bower covering 35 yards, as Bothell took the 34-13 lead into halftime.

The second half was more of the same for Bothell, as Wilson found the end zone for the fourth time on a 10-yard pass from Bowers. The missed extra point left the lead at 40-13 and Newport with no hope.

The third quarter came to a close with the final score of the game, Wilson’s fifth touchdown reception from 15-yards out from Bowers.
