The Inglemoor High boys’ swim team placed fourth last weekend out of all the 4A teams in attendance, and seventh overall, at the Kingco Championships at the University of Washington.
The Vikings finished with 277.5 team points, behind Newport (422), Issaquah (342) and Roosevelt (294), with 3A Mercer Island running away with the Kingco title (747).
Inglemoor’s best relay finished eighth in the 200-yard medley, as Mateusz Merchel, Casey Colella, Josaiah Clark and Matthew Yusen combined for 1 minute, 45.34 seconds in the finals to place eighth. The time is less than a second off the state-qualifying mark of 1:44.50.
Individually, the Vikings had a number of standout performances.
Colella, a junior, took fourth in the 200 IM in 2:06.43, with teammate Clark also placing in the final heat, in sixth, with a time of 2:09.35.
Colella also swam well in the breaststroke, placing fifth in 1:03.50, just two-tenths of a second off a state-qualifying time.
In the backstroke, Merchel, a sophomore, pinned down a state-qualifying time of 56.85 to place third, with teammate Seth Birell right behind in fifth (57.57).
For Bothell, sophomore Matt Williamson shined in the grueling 500 freestyle, placing second in 4:59.35.
