The Inglemoor High School cross country team competed at the 4A NW Regional Cross Country meet this past Saturday, with the boys finishing sixth and the girls finishing seventh.
The boys finished 10 points out of a state berth as a team but qualified two boys to the state meet in Pasco on Saturday.
Nick Laccinole finished fourth overall, qualifying for his third consecutive state cross country meet with a time of 16-minutes, 15.94-seconds. The muddy and extremely rainy course proved challenging for runners to get traction. The meet included teams from KingCo and WesCo.
Gavin Parpart finished ninth overall, qualifying for his second consecutive state meet in a time of 16:38.27.
Also running well were Michael Rhoads (17:27.73) and Wilson Turk (17:27.90), who finished 31st and 32nd overall. The Viking were without one of their top runners, Ethan Karlinsey, who did not compete due to an injury.
“It is difficult to not make the state meet with this boys team and losing Ethan earlier this month was a real heartbreaker,” said head coach Kelly Richards. “I am really proud of the way all the boys went out and competed and worked together as a team. Nick and Gavin are excellent leaders and are ready to cap off amazing high school cross country careers next week in Pasco.”
The girls team also narrowly missed the state cut, competing against 16 other teams. Rebecca Ledsham finished eighth and qualified for her second consecutive state meet in a time of 19:24.38.
“The girls did great and I am really proud of their performance,” Richards said. “We have a very young team and I am excited to see what they can do over the next couple of years. Rebecca is on a roll and is ready to run with the best next week at state.”
