The Bothell High School football team evened its record at 2-2 on the young season with a 33-28 victory against Mount Si in North Bend on Friday.
The Cougars wasted no time jumping out to a lead, scoring on a 59-yard Damani St. John-Watkins touchdown run to start the game.
The Wildcats were forced to punt during their first possession of the game and St. John-Watkins took advantage, capping a scoring drive with a five-yard touchdown run.
An interception by Bothell defender Tanner Gunnellsand and a 51-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Sirmon to Josh Schulke gave the Cougars a 20-0 lead before the end of the first quarter.
Bothell would extend that lead to 27-0 on St. John-Watkins’ third rushing touchdown of the game.
Mount Si finally got on the board with a 20-yard rushing touchdown just prior to halftime.
The Wildcats would chip away at the Cougar lead during the third and fourth quarters, eventually narrowing it to a 27-21 deficit. But a 56-yard touchdown pass from Sirmon to Gunnellsand proved to be the difference in the game despite a final Mount Si touchdown.
