The Snohomish County Sports Commission (SCSC), the sports division of the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau, will hold the First Annual Youth Sports Performance Conference on Nov. 14 at the Walt Price Student Fitness Center at Everett Community College. The free, family-oriented event includes an Interactive Fitness Challenge for all youth participants to measure their speed, power and agility, plus hands-on activities with local sports programs.
There will also be an Athletes Panel Discussion on the challenges of today’s youth athletes, featuring some of Snohomish County’s biggest sports names, and educational seminars that explore topics important to the youth athletes, their parents and coaches including:
- sports nutrition
- obesity
- nutrition myths
- concussions
- overuse injuries
- return to play protocols
The keynote speaker from 12:15–1 p.m. is Maui Borden of Proactive Coaching, LLC on the role of parents in a young athlete’s life.Optional CPR certification training will be offered from 1:30-5 p.m. (pre-registration required).
“The Snohomish County Sports Commission is very pleased to present this free opportunity to both young athletes and the parents who share in their development and success either in a team or individual sport,” said SCSC Board Chair Jim Ballew. “The conference is focused on ensuring a positive experience for young athletes and features experts who will reinforce and encourage safe training guidelines and behaviors.”
