Singh takes second at Kingco, headed to state

Jasmine Singh, Inglemoor High’s No. 1 singles player, came up one win short of a 4A Kingco title.

On May 18, Amy Vo of Newport High defeated Singh, 6-0, 6-0, in the final at Skyline High.

Both players will compete at the state tournament May 29-30 at the Tri-City Court Club in Kennewick.

Singh won her semifinal match, 6-3, 6-3, over Alisa VanGrunsven of Skyline and took her quarterfinal match, 6-2, 6-2, over Raluca lIfrim of Redmond.

VanGrunsven defeated Inglemoor’s Rachel McCarthy, 6-0, 7-5, in the quarters.

SOFTBALL

Lake Washington defeated Bothell, 4-3, last Friday to earn a trip to this week’s state tournament. Bothell was eliminated.

In earlier action, Bothell’s Ellen Bogardus tied the game in the seventh inning with a two-out, two-run double and Ashleigh Carter won it in the eighth with a one-out single as the Cougars defeated Lake Washington, 4-3, last Thursday.

In a 5-3 win over Inglemoor, Bogardus, Madi Davis, Briana Kastnig and Britta McOmber all had two hits.

To start the tournament, McOmber had three hits, including two home runs, and seven RBIs in the Cougars’ 10-3 victory over Skyline. Davis had three hits and Carter got the win with 10 strikeouts.

Inglemoor went 2-2 in the tourney with a 2-1 win over Eastlake and a 10-8 triumph over Newport.

Against Newport, Alex Acacio, Kaylee Hardin, Blair Lowman, Taylor McDonald and Rhianna Stepler-Camp all had two hits each.

BASEBALL

Puyallup defeated Inglemoor, 12-3, in the first round of the state tournament last Saturday.
