The Cougars’ soccer team ran its record to 4-0-0 in 4A Kingco league matches on Tuesday night with a last-minute overtime goal to stave off the Roosevelt Roughriders 2-1 at Northeast Athletic Complex.
After Samantha Mellick scored in the 20th minute off a feed from Ali Cundiff, Roosevelt scored the equalizer just before time expired in regulation, sending the game into overtime.
In the final minute of the first overtime period, Ashley Butcher connected for the game winner off Shannon Schueren’s assist.
With the win, Bothell improved to 4-0-0 and 8-1-1 overall while the Roughriders remained winless at 0-3-2 (3-4-3).
The Cougars played last night against undefeated Skyline (4-0-0, 9-0-0) in a marquee matchup after the Reporter’s deadline.
Viking swimmers excel at dual meet
Inglemoor High swimmers put together some solid performances at a dual 4A Kingco swim meet on Tuesday afternoon against Issaquah and Eastlake, with the Viks losing to the Eagles 115-70 but defeating the Wolves 94-92.
For Inglemoor, Sage Speak won the grueling 500 freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 31.63 seconds and the 200 free relay team of Claire Thompson, Kristy Chiang, Leann Yee and Speak won in a very fast 1:43.37, which was a state-qualifying time.
Cougar volleyball sweeps Ballard
The Bothell High volleyball team had no trouble taking care of Ballard at home on Monday night, beating the Beavers 3-0 via game scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-21.
For the Cougars, Piercen Lundquist had a game-high 13 kills, followed by Katie Arneson with eight. Haley Bedell recorded 12 digs, and Lundquist, Allie Hadley and Amanda Ernster each notched three service aces.
With the win, Bothell improved to 3-2 in 4A Kingco league play (4-5 overall), while Ballard dropped to 1-4 (1-7).
Vikings top Roosevelt
Inglemoor high won a four-game volleyball thriller on Monday night at home against the Roughriders, 3-1.
After taking a 2-0 lead with 25-22 and 25-18 wins, Roosevelt eked out a win in game three 25-23 to stay alive and force a fourth game, which went well into extra points as Inglemoor took the game and match 28-26.
For the Vikings, Megan Bafus slammed home 16 kills, followed by Emily Anderson with 12. Setter Samantha Reed recorded an amazing 40 assists, while Stephanie Griffiths led the team with 16 digs and five aces.
Roosevelt standout Sarah O’Connor led all players with 23 kills.
With the win, Inglemoor improved to 3-2 (5-4 overall) while Roosevelt dropped to the same 3-2, 5-4 record.
Bothell golf squeaks by Newport
Playing at home at Wayne Golf Course on Monday, the Cougars notched a close 4A Kingco league win over the Knights 196-200.
Bothell’s Nick Harley tied with Newport’s Kevin Chien for medalist honors with four-over-par 38s, followed by Gavin Stener and Daniel Lee for Bothell who both carded rounds of 39.
