Inglemoor High’s Madison Podlucky, 15, won the all-around title for the level-10 Washington State Gymnastics Championships last month at Seattle Pacific University with a cumulative score of 37.650, edging out Allison Northy of Gym East, who finished with 37.175.
Madison’s 13-year-old sister Samantha, a seventh-grader at Northshore Junior High competing at level eight, won the vault event with a score of 9.6 and finished third in the Junior A division at 37.225 all-around.
Madison, a sophomore, dominated the floor event with a 9.575 score to secure her win.
Level 10 is the highest level of youth gymnastics and equivalent to collegiate-level competition, and two of the level 10 athletes at the state competition were awarded full scholarships for gymnastics. That is something that Chris Podlucky, Samantha and Madison’s father, would love to see his daughters achieve with the work they’ve put into the sport.
“Both of them commute to Everett after school to work out for five hours a day at Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy,” said Chris. “(Gymnasts) put in a tremendous amount of time and effort and are often overlooked since club gymnastics is not part of a school sport.”
Leading Edge-Everett, a 16,000-square-foot facility founded in 1990, is one of the top gymnastics academies in the area, sending a total of 24 competitors to the Washington State Championships.
