Local sports roundup for Bothell, Inglemoor and Cedar Park Christian

The Bothell Cougars and Woodinville Falcons, owning a combined record of 15-4-3, faced off under the bright lights of Pop Keeney Stadium on Tuesday night in a 4A Kingco marquee soccer matchup, with the Falcons winning 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Woodinville junior midfielder Lilly Wilson scored on Audrey Phillips’ assist in the 44th minute, and the Falcons went up 2-0 on Haley Fay’s goal at 63:00.

Bothell’s Ali Cundiff scored off Alexis Thode’s feed with just over two minutes remaining but the Cougars were unable to score the equalizer.

With the loss, Bothell dropped to 4-2-0 in league play (8-3-1 overall) while Woodinville improved to 4-1-1 (7-1-2).

BOTHELL’S BIG SECOND QUARTER LEADS TO COACH’S 100th VICTORY

Bothell High School head coach Tom Bainter reached a big milestone last Friday night against Woodinville High School as his team scored 17 second-quarter points en route to a 26-10 victory over Woodinville, Bainter’s 100th career win as a Cougar coach.

After a scoreless first quarter, Woodinville kicker Conner Zaback launched a 41-yard field goal to open up the scoring, but the Cougars responded with three scores, a 2-yard touchdown run by Luke Proulx, 23-yard field goal by Jon Mercer and a 7-yard pass from Braden Foley to receiver Trent Sewell, to take a 17-3 lead at the half.

Proulx would score again in the third quarter on a 5-yard run to break the game wide open.

Quarterback Braden Foley completed 11 of 21 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown, with Proulx leading all rushers with 176 yards on 24 carries. Sewell caught five receptions for 82 yards.

VIKING VOLLEYBALL LOSES STEAM AGAINST FALCONS

With their backs to the wall, the Woodinville Falcons’ volleyball team got red-hot on Monday as they beat Inglemoor 3-2 by winning a race-to-15 tiebreaker 15-8.

Inglemoor won two of the first three games 25-17 and 25-23, but mustered only nine points in the decisive fourth game, which the Falcons used as momentum to take control of the tiebreak.

Inglemoor hitter Megan Bafus led the offense with 16 kills, followed by Emily Anderson with 11 and four service aces. Stephanie Griffiths notched 21 digs.

The loss dropped Inglemoor to 4-3 in 4A Kingco league play and 6-5 overall, while Woodinville improved to 4-2 (6-4). The Vikings played Skyline on Wednesday night after the Reporter’s deadline.

BOTHELL FALLS TO SKYLINE IN FOUR

The Cougars’ volleyball team started out strong, but couldn’t finish off games against Skyline in a 4A Kingco battle Monday night, falling to the Spartans 3-1.

Bothell won the first game 25-21 and then came close in the next three, losing by just a total of eight points 25-21, 25-23 and 27-25.

For Bothell, Piercen Lundquist slammed home 16 kills, followed by Haley Bedell with 10. Allie Hadley led the team with 26 assists and defensively the Cougars were solid as four players recorded 10 digs or more, led by Hope Frazier with 19.

With the loss, the Cougars dropped to a 3-4 league record (4-7 overall) on the season. They played Woodinville on Wednesday night after the Reporter’s deadline.

CEDAR PARK SHUTS DOWN VIKINGS

The Eagles came up big against rival Bellevue Christian on Tuesday night on the Vikings’ home turf as they emerged victorious by a score of 3-0 in a 1A Emerald City League matchup.

Cedar Park’s Victor Sviridyuk opened up the scoring, unassisted, in the 22nd minute, with Sviridyuk assisting teammate Addison Parker on a pair of late second-half goals to put the game out of reach.

Eagles’ goalkeeper Kevin House earned the shutout, his league-leading fourth of the season. Sviridyuk’s goal was his 14th of the year, which also leads the league.

With the win, Cedar Park improved to 6-3-0 (6-4-0 overall), while Bellevue Christian fell to 2-5-0 (2-8-0).

The Eagles play again next Tuesday at home against Northwest School, at 5:30 p.m.

VIKINGS, BEAVERS END IN SCORELESS DRAW

Goalkeepers Bernie Cardon of Ballard and Kelsey Clement of Inglemoor made a number of fantastic saves during the Beavers’ and Vikings’ 0-0 draw on Tuesday night at Inglemoor High School.

For both girls, it was their first shutout of the season.

With the draw, Inglemoor’s record is now 1-4-1 (1-8-2 overall).

The Vikings played again against Roosevelt (1-3-2, 4-4-3) at Memorial Stadium in Seattle on Thursday night after the Reporter’s deadline.

INGLEMOOR TENNIS FALLS

The Vikings’ tennis team swept its doubles matches, but unfortunately struggled in singles play to fall 4-3 to the Redmond Mustangs on Tuesday afternoon at Redmond High School.

Highlights for the Vikings included the doubles team of Stefan Bach and David Hanson beating Noah Klimisch and Paul DeWater 6-1, 6-1, Jerry Jiang and Glen Zinck also winning 6-1, 6-1 over Aron Daw and Austin Smith, and Peter Von Eberstein and Chris Berger outlasting Chris Chiu and Bryan Owen in a three-set tiebreak 5-7, 6-1, 10-8.
