Kenmore’s Osusky wins kayak gold in Hungary

Kenmore resident Karol Osusky won a gold medal at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Masters Kayaking World Championships in Szeged, Hungary last weekend, combining with Canada's Marian Nemec to take the K-2 Men's 200 meter sprint (65-69 age group) in 50.682 seconds.

Kenmore resident Karol Osusky won a gold medal at the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Masters Kayaking World Championships in Szeged, Hungary last weekend, combining with Canada’s Marian Nemec to take the K-2 Men’s 200 meter sprint (65-69 age group) in 50.682 seconds.

A local team from Hungary finished just over a second behind Osusky and Nemec in 51.852.

Individually, Osusky also placed third in the 200 meter race in 1:01.04, behiind Nemec and Russia’s Vladimir Borodin.

The races took place in 105 degree temperatures and a turbulent wind.

The ICF Masters, in its fourth year, welcomed racers from 94 participating countries, with Germany and Russia tying for overall medalist honors with 11 each.
