Inglemoor’s Speak signs to swim at Cal Poly

California Polytechnic State University has signed a total of 13 swimmers and one diver to national letters of intent including Ingelmoor High School standout Sage Speak.

California Polytechnic State University has signed a total of 13 swimmers and one diver to national letters of intent including Ingelmoor High School standout Sage Speak. The announcement was made Tuesday by Mustang head coach Tom Milich and Cal Poly director of athletics Don Oberhelman.

“Overall, I would say this is probably the best recruiting class, depth-wise, that we’ve had in my seven (previous) years at Cal Poly, so I’m pretty excited about that,” Milich said. “It’s a pretty talented group.”

As a sophomore, Speak won a Washington state championship in the 100-yard breaststroke, in a school-record time of 1-minute, 4.31-seconds.

“Sage Speak will definitely help us as a breaststroke event swimmer,” Milich said.

A team captain for the Vikings, Speak has also competed at the NCSA Junior National Championships, where she swam a 2:22.31 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The class, made up of eight women and six men, includes five swimmers and one diver who have earned high school All-America honors from the NISCA and Speedo in either individual events or relays, as well as three swimmers who were state champions either on an individual or team basis. Additionally, seven members of the class have earned Scholastic (academic) All-America accolades from USA Swimming.
