The Inglemoor High boys’ tennis team came up with two clutch wins to beat Bothell in the KingCo Conference finale on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Inglemoor High School.
Bothell held a 3-2 lead going into the final two doubles matches, but Inglemoor took both competitions. Max Chiang and Edward Yang beat David Lew and Abi Chandra in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.
Ray Fung and Patrick Bi then won the No. 3 doubles match 6-1, 6-3 over Bothell’s Justin Jones and Hank Melse to clinch a 4-3 victory for Inglemoor.
The Vikings finished the conference schedule at 5-1 for a second-place finish in the conference standings. The loss dropped Bothell to 3-3 and into a tie with Skyline for fourth.
On Wednesday, Bothell’s Andrew Schueller defeated Inglemoor’s Fred Huyan in the No. 1 singles match, 6-2, 6-3, and Bothell’s Joe Yamauchi won the No. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-4 over Athil George.
Inglemoor’s James Peng won 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 over Aditya Iyer in the No. 3 singles match, and Inglemoor’s Alex Wang won the No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-0 over Dylan Kato.
Bothell’s Darrin Niel and Ted Liu won the No. 1 doubles match, 7-5, 6-2, over Inglemoor’s Eric Zhu and Brian Xie.
Next, Bothell is scheduled for a pair of nonconference matches against Sammamish and Interlake on Oct. 4 and Oct. 6, respectively.
Inglemoor is scheduled for nonconference matches against Liberty and Juanita.
The KingCo Conference tournament is set for the following week.
