Inglemoor, Bothell send eight to 4A state swim/dive championships

A total of eight Northshore athletes will be participating in the 4A State Swim and Dive Championships, which concludes this Saturday with the finals starting at 11 a.m. at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.

The Inglemoor High team will be well-represented, as the Vikings earned state berths into six events.

Freshman Sage Speak placed third in the 50-yard freestyle last weekend at the Sea-King District II meet in 25 and 18 hundredths of a second (.02 of a second ahead of the state qualifying time), and teammate Leann Yee placed fifth in 25:43, with both of them advancing to state.

Speak notched another third-place finish and state-qualifying time in the 100-yard breaststroke event in 1:07.85, with Yee also qualifying in the 100-yard freestyle. In that event, Yee took fourth at districts with a time of 55.61 seconds.

Senior diver Kelsey Hay placed eighth at districts with 269.5 points and will be representing the Vikings on the diving platform.

Finally, the Vikings also qualified for both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays, which will consist of freshman Kristy Chiang and senior Claire Thompson in addition to Speak and Yee.

At districts, they placed second in the 200 free in 1:41.72, just getting edged out by Newport (1:41.00).

Bothell junior Tiffany Dang qualified for state in the 50 free, placing sixth in that event at districts in 25:89, and also recorded a state-qualifying time in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing fifth in 1:01.65.

The Cougars’ diving contingent is very strong this year with senior Michayla Craig (fourth at districts, 311.55 points) and freshman Marquesa Dixon (sixth, 285.9) both looking to threaten for podium spots.
