Bothell High gymnasts Raynie Hultgren and Karli Bodine overcame a tough scoring environment at the District 1 and 2 4A Gymnastics Championships at Sammamish High last Saturday to advance to the 4A State Gymnastics Meet this weekend in Tacoma.

Bothell ended up in third place overall with 159.7 team points, trailing Newport (171.425) and Woodinville (169.825).

Hultgren placed fourth all-around with a score of 35.9, highlighted by scores of 8.95 on the vault, good for fifth place, and a nearly flawless bars routine for 9.0 and third place.

Since all of Newport’s gymnasts get automatic berths into the team competition, Hultgren’s fourth-place finish enabled her to get into state as one of two all-around competitors.

Bodine took the fifth and final individual state spot in the beam event.

The 4A State Gymnastics Championships will take place at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Center starting at 9 a.m. Friday, with finals competition getting under way at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday.
