The Bothell Cougars, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, were no match for No. 1 Bellevue (3A) Friday night at Pop Keeney Stadium, falling to the Wolverines 35-7.
Known for their signature Wing-T offense, it was a fine first-half passing performance by Bellevue quarterback Jack Meggs (7-of-8, 167 yards) that did Bothell in.
Meggs threw three touchdowns, highlighted by a 53-yard bomb to receiver Scott Whiting.
The Wolverines also scored on a 12-yard fumble return after Bothell quarterback Ross Bowers was hit hard by Bellevue linebacker Myles Jack, freeing the ball.
The Cougars’ only score was a 21-yard run by tailback Danny Wilson in the fourth quarter.
With the loss, Bothell dropped to 0-2 against two of the state’s top teams and continues on to play Capital, on the road, this Friday night at 7 p.m.
Vikings fall to Meadowdale
A strong defensive effort by Meadowdale prevented Inglemoor from getting anything going last Thursday last Thursday at Pop Keeney Stadium, with the Mavericks winning 36-9.
In the first half, Maverick quarterback Brian Marty launched a long bomb to receiver Tyler McGuire that went for an 83-yard score, and the Vikings’ Willie Augustavo nailed a 32-yard field goal to put his team on the board going into halftime.
The second half was all Meadowdale, as they found the end zone three times, including runs of 51 and 65 yards by Morgan Masanda on an interception and running play, respectively.
In the fourth quarter, Jack Johnson ran in a 3-yarder for Inglemoor.
The Vikings dropped to 0-2 and play Tumwater on the road this Friday at 7 p.m.
Eagles improve to 2-0 after South Whidbey win
The Cedar Park Christian football team got off to a great start last Friday after Daniel Christenson returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown in the Eagles’ eventual 35-21 win.
South Whidbey answered in the first half, knotting the game at 21-21 at halftime, but it was two key rushing touchdowns by Andrew Rickman in the third and fourth quarters of 20 and 15 yards that earned the Eagles the win.
Quarterback Josh Ionesi ran in a 4-yarder in the second quarter, and Christenson added another score with a 19-yard reception from Ionesi.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 2-0 and get their league season started this Friday at 7 p.m. against Chimacum on the road.
