Cedar Park Christian defeated rival Life Christian, 60-34, in a 1A Nisqually League football contest Sept. 25 to move to 3-1 (1-1) on the season.
The Eagles scored on the fourth play of the game, a 59-yard touchdown pass from Justin Girgus to Zach Dinsmore. Girgus ended up passing for 208 yards and two more TDs, leading Cedar Park to 719 yards on offense. The offensive line pressed the Life defense back for 511 team rushing yards. Dinsmore led all ball carriers with 315 yards on 23 carries and scored twice.
Sophomore running back Daniel Watts scored two touchdowns and ran for 137 yards in a relief role.
After a 22-point start, the two teams traded scores in the third quarter before Cedar Park broke away with the final 16 points to put the game to rest. The defense played well, containing mobile Life junior quarterback Kingston Kuenher.
“He can run,” said coach Craig Shetterly. “We set up some things in the practice week to keep him in front of us, and our guys never let him get away for any big plays.”
The defense also had two sacks and three interceptions, holding Life to 274 yards of offense. Senior linebacker Casey Ronnasi led all tacklers with eight, six of them solo.
“He played very well. He was also looking for someone to tag, and he leads this defense when he’s on the field,” Shetterly said of Ronnasi.
After dropping a tight game to Charles Wright Academy, 32-28, last week in a downpour, Cedar Park was excited to get back on the winning track.
“We were disappointed about the result last week and we felt like we let ourselves down. But our guys hunkered down, focused this week and fought adversity,” Shetterly said.
