After going 15-0 to start the season, the Bothell High School boys basketball team has now lost two in a row. But the games were played on back-to-back days against two of the toughest squads the Cougars will face all season.

Despite the severe test, Bothell put up a good fight against Garfield Tuesday night at Bothell High School but eventually lost 86-71.

Seniors Perrion Callendret and Zach LaVine tried to save the team by combining for 66 points. But only two other players scored for Bothell during the game, making it tough for the offense to find its footing during the second half.

Callendret’s 31 points were a season high for the University of Idaho commit. Callendret led the team during the first two quarters, scoring 25 points before halftime.

Despite the domination of Callendret on offense, the Bulldogs took a 42-39 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The teams played shot-for-shot during the third quarter, as Garfield narrowly increased its lead heading into the final frame of play. But during the fourth quarter the fatigue of illness going through the Bothell team, two games in two days and battling one of the best teams in the league caught up to the Cougars. The Bulldogs steadily pulled ahead and out scored Bothell 25-14 to clinch the upset.

The loss is also the Cougars first in league play this season and follows the team’s loss on Monday to Rainier Beach at the King Holiday Hoopfest.

Bothell will try to get back on track on Friday as they host Iglemoor for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
