Bothell’s Jeffrey Goong sets new school diving record; Cougs lose to Eastlake, Shorewood

Less than a week after qualifying for the state swimming championships in the 100-yard breaststroke, Bothell High sophomore Brandon Stride has added his name in another event.

Stride won the 200 individual medley in a conference meet against Eastlake on Tuesday in Redmond, setting a state-qualifying time of 2 minutes, 1.73 seconds. The Bothell High boys swim team lost to the Wolves, 97-86, but had several highlights along the way.

The Bothell’s Corey and Brandon Stride, Cameron Birrell and Nathan Miller, won the 200 medley relay by two seconds over Eastlake. Corey Strike won the 100 freestyle and Birrell won the 500 freestyle.

Bothell freshman Morgan Sylvester won the 100 backstroke, and Brandon Stride took the 100 breaststroke, re-setting his state-qualifying time.

Corey Stride and Birrell took first and second in the 100 breaststroke two days later in a nonconference loss to Shorewood in Shoreline, both setting season-best times.

Bothell senior Jeffery Goong set a new school record in the 1 meter dive, scoring 287.25 points to win the event.

Brandon Stride won the 100 butterfly and Charlie Miller won the 100 freestyle.

Next, Bothell is scheduled to compete against Issaquah at 3 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the Juanita Pool in Kirkland.

Inglemoor swam against Skyline on Jan. 12, losing 126-50 at the Boehm Pool in Issaquah. Next, Inglemoor is set to take on Eastlake at 3 p.m. on Jan. 19 at the Juanita Pool.
