Fourteen members of the Seattle Synchronized Swimming Team, including athletes from Bothell and Kirkland, are set to compete for a national title at the 2014 Age Group National Championships from June 28-July 5 in Federal Way. The meet features competitions in the 11-12, 13-15, 16-17, and 18-19 age group categories.
Local qualifiers include:
• 11-12 age group team — Jamie Chin, Jessica Forcucci, MeiLi Hobson, Ivy Huang, Keana Hunter, Emma Kamb, Elizaveta Polyakova and Alicia Wu
• 16-17 age group team — Lilly Cao, Grace Chen, Kaitlyn Cobb (injured, not swimming), Irene Gonzalez, Abigail Orler, Shanaya Satterfield and Zoe Strand
These athletes will compete in team, duet and solo events. They qualified for the national championships by placing among the top three finishers at the 2014 Northwest Regional Championships.
Synchronized swimming requires a unique combination of strength, agility, endurance, flexibility, and speed. Seattle Synchro athletes practice 2-4hours per day, 3-5 days per week. Elite-level synchronized swimmers typically practice eight hours per day, six days per week.
