While league powerhouses Newport and Woodinville were battling it out for the 4A Kingco gymnastics title last Saturday at Roosevelt High School, Northshore rivals Bothell and Inglemoor had quite a contest between them for the third and fourth spots to advance as a team to this weekend’s District meet, with the Cougars barely winning 164.625-163.95.
Newport ended up winning the meet by just over a point, 175.55 to 174.45.
For Bothell, senior Raynie Hultgren won the vault with a score of 9.1, and placed second on the bars (9.15) as well as the all-around (36.925) behind Newport standout Kristine Wong’s 37.375.
Inglemoor’s Mina Tanaka shined on the floor with a near-perfect routine, scoring 9.8, helping her to fourth place in the all-around (36.375).
The Cougars and Vikings will both go on to the Sea-King District meet in Sammamish this Saturday, from which the top two teams, top two all-around athletes and top six individuals from each event will go on to the state meet, which takes place Feb. 17 and 18 at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Center.
