Playing at home, the Bothell High boys basketball team had no trouble with the 3A Juanita High Rebels on Saturday night as the Cougars won, 56-41.
Bothell’s defense held Juanita to just three second-quarter points as the Cougars opened up a 31-17 lead at the half and never looked back.
The Cougars were led by O’Dea transfer Dominic Ballard, who put in a game-high 26, followed by Oliver Hurtin with 12.
• Friday night’s crosstown matchup featuring the Inglemoor and Bothell boys teams was neck-and-neck at halftime with the Cougars holding on to a 23-22 advantage, but the Vikings were limited to five points in the decisive third quarter as Bothell prevailed, 43-38.
The Cougars had three men in double-digits, led by Ballard with 13, followed by Hurtin with 12 and Kyle McAllister with 11.
Inglemoor’s big man Paul Jorg led his team with 13, followed by Brady Gregor with nine.
WRESTLING
Bothell put together a strong showing at Jackson High’s Scoop Invitational, placing second out of eight teams with 187 team points, behind the host team with 230.5.
Highlights for the Cougars included Chris Ungerecht, wrestling at 112, pinning Jackson’s Jorge Escobedo in 1:52; Dustin Rohde (140) pinning Archbishop Murphy’s Daniel Marshbank in 4:53; Trevor Tadena (152) achieving a decision against Nick Kelly of Shorecrest, 9-7.
BOYS SWIMMING
Inglemoor won nine out of 11 events at Friday’s 4A Kingco swim meet against Roosevelt at Evans Pool en route to a 108-78 win.
The highlight of the meet was the 200-yard medley relay team of Kyle Komlodi, Michael Postetter, Carl Olsson and Craig Olynyk setting a state-qualifying time of 1 minute, 45.84 seconds.
GYMNASTICS
Both Inglemoor and Bothell emerged victorious at 4A Kingco gymnastics league meets last Thursday.
The Vikings snuck by Ballard, 162.3-160.65, on the strength of Mina Tanaka (34.7) and Shawna Kelly (33.9) finishing second and third, respectively, in the all-around.
The Cougars (155.4 points) won a four-way meet with Mercer Island (133.9), Garfield (133.6) and Eastlake (109.15), with Bothell’s Karli Bodine winning both the bars (8.2) and the beam (9.6) event, and Kelsey Meyer winning the vault with 8.75 points. Jasmine Boyd (31.8) took the all-around by one-tenth of a point over Garfield’s Jessica Badgeley.
