Bothell’s Brandon Davidson won the 4A KingCo tournament title in the 152-pound division on Friday and Saturday at Skyline High School. The championship helped to propel the Bothell High School wrestling team to fifth during the league championship meet. The Cougars had 10 wrestlers overall place in the top six.

Davidson faced Issaquah’s Jerdon Helgeson during the championship and out wrestled his opponent during a cerebral 12-7 match.

The Cougar fought hard for his title during the early rounds, earning an 18-3 victory during the first round and a third-round pin during the quarter finals. Davidson dominated Nikolay Lifshaz of Newport, 15-2, during the semi-finals.

Zachary Alvis came close to winning it all. The 170-pound senior had to wait around through a first-round bye and a second round forfeit before he even saw the mat. But the layoff did not hurt the senior from earning a 14-3 victory against Eastlake’s Eli Maesner. Alvis lost to Ingelmoor’s Jared Koukal, 9-1, during the finals to take second place.

Bothell also had Josh Friedli (195 pounds) and Virgil Smith (138 pounds) take third, Tommy Forker (220), Rene Arriola (145) and Kyle Hanson (132) take fourth, Andrew Hanson (126) take fifth, while Chris Norton (160) and Blaine Hoogerwerf (170) finished sixth.

All these wrestlers will have the opportunity to move on to the Regional Tournament in Vancouver, Wash. on Feb. 9.
