The Bothell boys’ basketball team stumbled into the Kingco tournament with weekend losses to Skyline (65-61) and Ballard (74-58) on Friday and Saturday, dropping them to the fourth seed in the Crown Division.
The Skyline game, played on the Spartans’ home court, went into overtime as the Cougars closed with a rush in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 53-53.
The Spartans, led by standout Lucas Shannon and his game-high 27 points, were able to take the lead and hold off Bothell in OT, scoring 12 points to the Cougars’ eight.
For Bothell, Zach LaVine scored 25, with Perrion Callandret adding 12.
The next night, the Cougars dug themselves a big hole in the first half, struggling on offense to a 38-20 deficit they could not recover from.
LaVine and Callandret again led with 20 and 13 points, respectively.
Bothell will rematch with Skyline in their Kingco Tournament opener on Tuesday night, at Skyline High School, tipoff at 7:30.
Vikings finish off tough season
The Inglemoor High boys’ team ended a tough 2011-12 campaign by splitting a pair of games over the weekend.
On Friday, Redmond was able to hold off a Viking fourth-quarter comeback, 68-60, that saw Inglemoor down 15 heading into the final period.
Three players were in double figures for the Vikings, led by Chris Bryant with 13, with Cooper Danby (11) and Sam Omondi (10) also contributing.
On Saturday, the Vikings ended the season on a high note, dispatching Woodinville 67-59.
The win was a combination of good offense and defense, as the game was broken open in the third quarter with the Vikings putting in 19 while holding the Falcons to just five points.
Playing in their final game in a Viking uniform, senior captains Sam Omondi (18 points) and Chris Bryant (17) led the way, along with junior Brendan Lauck’s 16 as the team finished 2-13 in league play and 6-14 overall.
Lady Vikings win one, lose one, set to take on Eastlake
After routing Redmond 60-38 on Friday night on the road, the Inglemoor girls were stopped at home, 72-66, by the visiting Falcons, in overtime.
The Vikings squandered a seven-point fourth quarter lead, and Woodinville’s momentum carried the Falcons through overtime, holding the Vikings to just two points.
Taylor Peacocke scored a game-high 15, followed by Kate Taylor with 12 and Chay Fuller with 10.
The Vikings finished their league season at 12-3 (16-4) and will open up the Kingco Tournament against Eastlake (9-5, 12-8) at home on Wednesday night, tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
Cedar Park teams advance to Emerald City League tournament
The Cedar Park Christian boys’ and girls’ basketball teams finished with wins on Friday night and are set to play in the Emerald City League (ECL) tournament this week.
The boys (9-3, 12-7) beat University Prep, 52-47, behind Trey Dreschel’s game-high 23 points and will play in a loser-out, winner-to-Districts game against Northwest (2-10, 4-15) on Thursday at 3:15 at Seattle Academy.
The girls routed University Prep 69-24, led by Rachel Staudacher’s 25, to finish the league season at 13-1 and 14-6 overall, and will take on Bellevue Christian for the ECL championship this Thursday at Seattle Academy, tipoff 7:15 p.m. Regardless of the outcome, both the Vikings and Eagles will advance to the 1A Tri-District Tournament, which gets underway on Feb. 11.
