The Bothell High School football team continue to run over the competition Friday, blowing out the Islanders 57-7 at Mercer Island High School to stay undefeated.
The Cougars began the game with a 13-yard touchdown from running back Sam McPherson. Bothell scored in nearly every way possible during the game, including a 44 yard interception return for a touchdown by Anthony Davis on Mercer Island’s next possession.
The Cougars pushed the lead to 29-0 during the first quarter following a one-yard score by McPherson and a 16-yard run for a touchdown by Sean Hanraha.
Bothell scored through the air to start the second quarter, as quarterback Ross Bowers threw a touchdown pass to Sean Munro.
Mercer Island broke the shutout with a touchdown five minutes into the second quarter but Bothell struck right back with blistering 51-yard touchdown run by McPherson. The Cougars took a 43-7 lead into halftime.
McPherson put up the only points for the visiting team during the third quarter, a 13-yard touchdown run from scrimmage. Bothell running back Caleb Meyer scored the only points of the fourth quarter with a 77-yard run from scrimmage.
The win pushes Bothell to 8-0 on the season.
The team will face Inglemoor for a perfect regular season at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 during the annual Spaghetti Bowl at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell.
