The city’s well-known motto is “Courtesy is Contagious in Kenmore.” These days, it should be, “Curiosity is Contagious in Kenmore.”

What’s going on with all the construction work on State Route 522? What about the new city hall, the post office and Carole Ann Wald Memorial Pool up at St. Edward State Park?

Well, all the answers to those questions have appeared in these pages over the last few months, so I hope you’ve been reading your Reporter religiously.

In addition to a quick plug for us, Kenmore Mayor David Baker and a group of city residents have been taking matters into their own hands by hosting community question-and-answer events. The first gathering was slated for last Sunday at the Kenmore Community Center. There’s an upcoming meeting with Baker scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. May 28 at the center, located at 7304 N.E. 175th St.

By all means, cruise out of the house on that Thursday night and leave “reality TV” (hint, hint: last week’s question to the left of this page) behind for a bit and get a real dose of what’s going on outside your doors. Mayor Baker is a speaking pro and is a stellar listener, as well, so I’m sure it will be an informative evening.

I received a call from Mayor Baker about a year ago when I wrote about a host of vacancies in Kenmore buildings on SR 522. I, too, wanted answers and he assured me things would turn out fine. So, what’s happened since? Well, Ostroms has moved into the former Dennys spot and is spicing up that lot. Across the way, there’s the Lakeview Yoga and Wellness Center that’s packing people in and keeping minds and bodies refreshed.

I even spoke with a writer for a major national magazine recently who said Kenmore was noted as an ideal place to live. Let’s hope the city makes the cut and appears in publication.
