The Kenmore City Council invites community members to participate in a park cleanup event from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 20 at Log Boom Park honoring Kenmore’s first mayor Jack V. Crawford’s many contributions to Kenmore.
Volunteers are needed to help clean the History Path signage, pick up litter along the shoreline, pull weeds and disperse mulch. Depending upon the number of volunteers, additional cleanup activities may be completed along the Burke-Gilman Trail. Welcoming remarks begin at 9 a.m.
Individuals, families and community groups are encouraged to participate. Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Bring gloves and basic gardening tools, as the city will have limited quantities available. The event will happen rain or shine, so please dress appropriately. Water and light snacks will be provided. The city encourages participants to join staff for lunch following the event.

In 2009, the City Council proclaimed Oct. 24 “Courtesy is Contagious in Kenmore” Day as an annual observance in honor of Crawford, who passed away in December 2008. Crawford was particularly proud of Kenmore’s parks and served on the Kenmore City Council from its incorporation in August 1998 through December 2005. During his tenure, Crawford held the position of Kenmore’s first Mayor from 1998-1999; and held the position of Deputy Mayor from 2000-2001.
In 2008, while serving as the president of the Kenmore Heritage Society, Crawford played a key role in developing the Kenmore History Path at Log Boom Park. The Heritage Society dedicated the path to Crawford in August 2009.
