University of Washington Bothell professor P.V. Balakrishnan delivered the keynote address at one of the top international marketing conferences in Asia.
The International Great Lakes North American Society for Marketing Education in India (NASMEI) conference included presentations from professors and doctoral students from across the globe. Business-ready managers attend the annual two-day conference to gain knowledge in marketing and emerging changes.
In his keynote address, Balakrishnan emphasized the relationship between scholarly work and industry.
“An effective manager and policy manager is evolved through the acceptance and the dynamic use of research,” he said.
In addition to the keynote address, Balakrishnan led students and faculty attendees through an interactive session on business and marketing where he stressed the importance of mastering management leadership. During his talk, Balakrishnan applauded research universities that leverage scholarship to address real problems of a larger global populace. He envisioned professors and professionals working across and beyond disciplinary silos to advance the state of current knowledge at business schools.
The conference is fast garnering a reputation on the international circuit where cutting edge research is being presented and debated. It covered many marketing topics including subsistence marketing, green marketing, beauty and marketing, consumer behavior and Internet marketing.
Balakrishnan obtained his Ph.D. in Marketing from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also has an undergraduate degree in Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a masters’ degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, and another masters’ degree in marketing from The Wharton School. He is one of the founding faculty members of the business administration program of the University of Washington, Bothell, when it launched in 1993, and is now a full professor in the University of Washington Bothell School of Business. Balakrishnan won the prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award for the UW Bothell campus in the year 2011.
