The Unity Center of Peace in Bothell will hold a monthly Silent Walk for Peace in response to the acts of violence we are seeing throughout the world.
“Walking for peace soothes the immense pain and suffering we all experience from acts of violence. Participation in silent peace walks makes us more peaceful and develops in us a desire to actively and lovingly promote peace,” said Unity Center Of Peace board member Sandy Catalano.
The Unity in Diversity Peace Walk will take place the first Sunday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Lytle House at the Park at Bothell Landing.
The half-mile walk will be in silence with slow contemplative steps. Unity Center of Peace is calling on other religious and community organizations to join in the walk for peace. The Unity Center of Peace was formed in 2011 as an intentional action step for peace in the wake of 9/11.
The Unity Center of Peace is inviting people from all backgrounds, all walks of life, all cultures, all religions, all nationalities, all sexual orientations, all ages, and all ideologies to join with them and walk together in silence for peace. Peace Walks are practiced in many traditions notably in the traditions of Buddhism in Southeast Asia – a region that has known its share of violence. In essence, these walks are a way of demonstrating that those who seek peace are not alone and that we are committed to seeking ways to move forward toward greater peace in the world.
These walks are done in silence out of respect for the immensity of the work of peace and in recognition of the ways in which rhetoric can divide people.
