The City of Kenmore receives clean audit

The City of Kenmore received a clean audit from the Washington State Auditor's Office for the 13th year in a row.

The City of Kenmore received a clean audit from the Washington State Auditor’s Office for the 13th year in a row.

“In the areas we examined, the City’s internal controls were adequate to safeguard public assets,” stated the auditor in the report. “The City also complied with state laws and regulations and its own policies and procedures in the areas we examined.”

Audit procedures are performed to determine whether cities comply with state laws and regulations and their own policies and procedures. A finding is a deficiency discovered during an audit which the auditor is required to report.

This year’s audit evaluated the City’s internal controls from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2012, including financial condition, third-party cash receipting, on-call contracts, public works procurement and prevailing wage requirements, contingency funds, general disbursements, payroll, and credit cards. An audit is typically scheduled annually, but the city was eligible for a two-year audit cycle based on the auditor’s evaluation of past audit history and revenues.
