Teams from four Northshore Schools advance to state science tournament

Teams from Bothell High School and Canyon Park, Kenmore and Northshore junior high schools will advanced to the Washington State Science Olympiad Tournament on Saturday, April 12, at Eastern Washington University.

Teams from Bothell High School and Canyon Park, Kenmore and Northshore junior high schools will advanced to the Washington State Science Olympiad Tournament on Saturday, April 12, at Eastern Washington University.

Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, creating a passion for learning science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers.

Bothell High School’s Blue Team, the Blue Team from Canyon Park Junior High School and the team from Northshore Junior High School all finished first in their overall regional Science Olympiad competitions. The team from Kenmore Junior High School finished second. The four teams are among the top twenty teams from across the state to compete at the state tournament and a chance to advance to the Science Olympiad National Tournament to be held May 16 and 17, at the University of Central Florida.

Teams from six Northshore schools competed among forty-seven teams in Northwest regional tournaments held in March.

This year’s events included students designing, building and testing balsa boomilevers, wheeled vehicles, helicopters, gliders, robots, musical instruments, magnetic levitating cars and a precision measuring compound machine.
