Snohomish County’s Public Works Department is conducting an evaluation of pedestrian facilities located in the public right-of-way for compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Barriers to equal access identified during the evaluation will be incorporated into a multiyear transition plan that will address bringing non-compliant facilities up to standard.
Public Works is seeking five volunteers to serve on a Snohomish County ADA Citizen Advisory Committee for Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way to provide feedback and recommendations to staff and policy makers for ADA facilities in the public right-of-way.
Qualified volunteers need to be Snohomish County residents with an interest in ensuring that equal access to pedestrian facilities in the public right-of-way is afforded to all. Individuals with a basic understanding of the history and requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act are preferred.
Volunteers who are selected to serve on the committee also must be willing to meet for up to two hours quarterly at the Snohomish County campus in Everett.
Committee members will be appointed to two- or three-year terms. Accommodations will be made for committee members with disabilities. Volunteers who are selected to serve on the committee must be willing to submit to a criminal background check before being officially appointed to serve.
Residents interested in serving on the Snohomish County ADA Citizen Advisory Committee for Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way should send a letter of interest addressed to:
