With difficult discussions forthcoming on what, if any, new transportation revenue may be passed by the legislature, ten members of the Snohomish County delegation have voiced their priority investments for the North Puget Sound region.

In a letter to House Transportation Chair Judy Clibborn (D-Mercer Island) a total of 16 major safety and mobility projects are detailed that would cost $871 million. Clibborn’s revenue proposal earlier this session underrepresented what has been designated the North Puget Sound Manufacturing Corridor.

“Snohomish County is an important driver in Washington’s economy and we need to make sure it is a priority in any transportation investment we make,” said Rep. Marko Liias (D-Mukilteo).  “Snohomish legislators have worked closely with our local governments, businesses, labor, and ports to create this list that will help get our economy moving again and create local jobs.”

“The North Sound communities are our state’s leaders in aerospace and manufacturing — if we are going to continue to grow these important sectors we need to invest in local mobility,” said Rep. Luis Moscoso (D-Mountlake Terrace).  “Unemployment is still far too high and we need to prioritize jobs for hard working families while reducing the gridlock that frustrates Snohomish residents.”

The House Transportation Committee recently had a public hearing on its “no new taxes” transportation budget.  Discussions on a revenue proposal will take place in the remaining three weeks of the legislative session.
