Skyview Junior High students collect more than 1,000 pounds of food for local families

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving was a day of ice-packed roads and no school due to snow. But the doors at Skyview Junior High were open that morning for families to receive their holiday food baskets for the fourth year.

Skyview students had collected more than 1,000 pounds of food the previous week and a half. A small group gathered Tuesday night to assemble the food into baskets, and families were called to come Wednesday morning. More than a dozen families were served baskets that contained more than 100 pounds of nonperishable food, a turkey and a gift card to Safeway or Albertson’s.
