For the first time, the city of Bothell and the Greater Bothell Chamber of Commerce will come together to celebrate the members of what Tom Brokaw called the “Greatest Generation” — senior citizens.
On Sept. 14, Bothell businesses and other chamber members will honor seniors with free giveaways, shopping, food, discounts, historical tours, wine tasting, live entertainment, prizes and more on Main Street in downtown Bothell.
The city will wrap up the festivities dedicating the day as Senior Citizens’ Day.
“I’m just thrilled that the Greater Bothell community appreciates seniors,” said Northshore Senior Center Director Gary Kingsbury. “Too often we just kind of have that youth mentality and seniors get ignored.”
Kingsbury added Senior Day honors and recognizes the past and present contributions and sacrifices made by senior citizens.
All senior citizens and their families are welcome to attend the all-day event. While people can attend at any time, live entertainment will be provided between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Bothell’s Historical Society will provide walking tours of historic downtown Bothell at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and wine will be served by Woodinville Wineries. Parking will be free and a shuttle service, available to all from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will run from various retirement communities and the Northshore Senior Center to downtown Bothell at regular times throughout the day.
