Schumacher brothers of Bothell earn Eagle Scout honors

Bothell residents Samuel and Jacob Schumacher, members of Boy Scout Troop 574, were awarded the Boy Scouts of America highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor on May 4.

Bothell residents Samuel and Jacob Schumacher, members of Boy Scout Troop 574, were awarded the Boy Scouts of America highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor on May 4. The ceremony took place at Cedar Park Church in Bothell.

Samuel and Jacob are the sons of Jim and Katherine Schumacher. Many leaders of the troop were in attendance including Scoutmaster Rob Lee, Advancement Chair Dave Keen and Troop Leader Jim Schumacher.

Samuel returned the honor of mentor to Cedar Park Pastor Rich Haugo for significant impact in his life. Jacob returned the honor of mentor to both Matt Comstock for his valuable life skills and volunteerism towards scouting, and to Howard Litterell, owner of H&K Floor Coverings, for his assistance with his Eagle Project.

Jim Schumacher led the audience through the career growth from Cub Scouts through Boy Scout, and presented a slideshow of their growth throughout their scouting program.

In addition to the ceremony, the parents presented both Samuel and Jacob a gift to commemorate the occasion. This gift however, was actually a challenge to continue with the third point of the scout law: “A Scout is Helpful.”

Jim and Katherine presented their sons with the “Schumacher Challenge,” a gift of $500 each. Their sons have one year to utilize the funds and their abilities to impact their community in a positive way and report back to those in attendance with how they chose to utilize the funds to impact the community.

Samuel’s Eagle Scout project benefited Cedar Springs Camp in Lake Stevens, Wash. The project included planning, budgeting and coordinating the construction of twelve picnic tables for the camp. Samuel has enjoyed the scouting program since he joined in 2003 as a Cub Scout.

Jacob organized his Eagle Scout project to benefit Cedar Springs Camp in Lake Stevens, Wash. The project included planning, budgeting and coordinating the construction of two carpet ball game tables for the camp to replace the single twenty year-old table. Jacob has enjoyed scouting since joining as a Cub Scout in 2005.
