At its meeting tonight, the Bothell City Council elected Andy Rheaume as Mayor and Davina Duerr as Deputy Mayor of the City of Bothell. Both positions are two-year terms that will end on Dec. 31, 2017.
“We hope to continue the good progress of the City with the leadership of this new Council,” said Mayor Rheaume.
Rheaume has served on the Bothell City Council since 2012. His most recent committee assignments included Human Services, WRIA 8 Forum, and the Eastside Transportation Partnership. He was an alternate on the Sound Cities Association and Northshore Parks and Recreation Service Area Board.
After his election as mayor, Rheaume said, “This is the most ethnically diverse Council in the City of Bothell’s history.”
Duerr is half Chinese and incoming Councilmember James McNeal is African-American.
A licensed architect, Duerr has served on the Northshore Schools Foundation and the Bothell Landmark Preservation Board. She also co-founded the “Milk Money Campaign” to raise money for homeless and disadvantaged children in the Northshore School District. She cited safe routes to school, restoring historic Main Street as a means for economic development, and protecting parks and open spaces through a parks-only bond as her current priorities.
“I’d like to continue the community engagement I saw in the campaign,” Duerr said. “Bothell has a lot of issues that can be solved with community engagement.”
McNeal, a project manager at a construction company, was a founding member and past president of OneBothell, a group formed to preserve Wayne Golf Course land. He cited many goals in working for the residents of Bothell, ranging from parks to transportation, public safety and fiscal responsibility.
“I’m interested in working toward a united Council that works for all of Bothell,” McNeal said. “I’m excited to be a part of Bothell’s history.”
Duerr, James McNeal and Andy Rheaume were all sworn in by Judge Michelle Gehlsen tonight before the mayoral election.
The City of Bothell has a council-manager form of government. The City Council is the legislative body and sets policy, passes local ordinances, and approves the city budget. The city manager provides professional management of the city, overseeing a staff that enacts the Council’s policies.
The mayor will be paid $1,200/month, the deputy mayor will receive $1,050/month. Councilmembers receive $1,000/month.
