Northshore YMCA leaders dream big and hope to make a huge impact in life, as well. And there’s no better example of this than the comment issued in their recent press release: “Enabling as many of our community members of all ages to reach their potential has been the driving passion of the Northshore YMCA for 30 years.”
To celebrate its 30-year anniversary and to share its goals for engaging more kids and families throughout Bothell, Kenmore, Woodinville and Duvall, the Northshore YMCA will host two events this weekend.
First up will be an Anniversary Gala Event & Live Auction from 6:30-10 p.m. Oct. 2 at Cascadia Community College, Mobius Hall (18345 Campus Way N.E., Bothell).
Next, there will be an Anniversary Reunion: Family & Friends Day from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Northshore YMCA (11811 N.E. 195th St., Bothell).
Christine Howeiler, Northshore YMCA’s director of development for the past six years, said there’s a buzz around her workplace about the events.
“It’s a great opportunity for folks to celebrate the past, present and future of this branch,” she said, noting that reconnecting with others and making new friends will be keys to this weekend’s gatherings.
The exclusive “black tie and tennis shoes” gala celebration and live auction, emceed by Grant Goodeve (“Eight is Enough,” “Northwest Backroads”), will benefit the new Peter Morris Camp and Scholarship Fund at the Northshore YMCA.
The Endowment Campaign aims to raise $1 million to allow more local children to attend Y camps and enjoy other healthy, character-building programs.
Auction items include a Holland America cruise, a Woodinville wine country tour by hot air balloon, Precor exercise equipment and a “golden ticket” opportunity.
Howeiler said the work of volunteers and support from key donors have kept the Northshore branch going strong for 30 years.
“It’s an incredible legacy they’ve established to maintain this branch,” she said. “Their support of this organization is very profound.”
