Most people have worries about delivered packages being stolen from their front porch during the holidays. But most don’t think about the risk for the people delivering those packages. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is investigating the attempted armed robbery of a letter carrier in Bothell earlier this month and is seeking the public’s help.
A white male in his 30s approached a letter carrier on Nov. 1 at approximately 1:50 p.m., displaying a handgun and attempting to steal items of value from the worker. The suspect was unable to acquire any items before the carrier slammed the suspects hand in the car door and ran from the scene, in the area of 169th Street SE and 35th Drive NE in Bothell.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service stated in a release that the suspect is a white male, with a thin build, approximately 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, and had dark-brown chin hair. He was wearing a black/dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with a zipper. The suspect likely sustained cuts and bruises on his right hand as a result of the incident.
After the failed robbery attempt, the suspect fled the scene in a late 1980s early 1990s red Acura Integra. The Inspection Service states that the suspect was accompanied in the vehicle by two white females.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the crime.
Anyone with information about this crime should call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at (206) 442-6318.
