Students in the Northshore School District (NSD) are impacted by 18 Northshore Schools Foundation (NSF) funded programs during their K-12 school career, as the Foundation enters its 19th year of granting funds for innovation, curriculum enhancement and teacher training.
NSF Executive Director Carmin Dalziel and Co-President Michelle Morris presented a check for $76,246 to the members of the NSD School Board and Superintendent Larry Francois at the Sept. 22 school board meeting.
Funds were raised during the 2014-15 school year through numerous programs presented by the NSF, including the annual All in for Kids Campaign, The Taste of the Holiday Wine Walk, Molbaks’ Holiday Shopping weekend, Spring Luncheon, Retired NSD Staff Brunch, Milk Money community change drive, designated workplace giving and several other partnership events. This season funding partnerships from Woodinville Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund, School Employees Credit Union, PEMCO, and directed donor
“Once again, the Foundation’s commitment to supporting Northshore students by focusing on the district’s goals and performance measures is deeply appreciated,” said NSD School Board President Janet Quinn.
A district-wide granting process identified the needs of the NSD and aligned those needs with NSF funding initiatives. Funds from the grant will be directed to these key projects over the next school year: Services for homeless students; Backpacks for kids in need; Teacher training on best practices for promoting social emotional health for all District students and mentorship support for teachers in their first year of teaching; Job Training and Emergency supplies for students in our Adult Education Program; Career Fair at Timbercrest and Leota Junior High School; and Project Lead the Way.
The grant also provide funds 43 requests from individual classroom teachers at 23 schools who are enhancing their lesson plans to incorporate new teaching strategies and projects while insuring that students meet required benchmarks for learning.
The Foundation has recently kicked off it’s All In for Kids community campaign which engages those who have the means to make a donation of $1 a day,$365 a year to support students and public education.
