Northshore School District closed, nearly 6,000 PSE customers in Bothell, Kenmore without electricity

A wind storm that ripped through the Puget Sound area on Sunday had a big impact on Northshore residents.

Update 3:40 p.m.

Cascadia College has had its power restored. Classes scheduled for 5 p.m. or later are running on time, however the offices are still closed.

According to PSE and Snohomish PUD outage maps, around 600 customers in Bothell and Kenmore were still without power.

 

Update 2:00 p.m.

Puget Sound Energy is reporting that power should be fully restored to King, Skagit and Island counties by midnight, Pierce County could see full restoration by 6 p.m., followed by Whatcom County at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning and Kitsap County should be restored fully by midnight Tuesday.

According to a PSE press release more than 176,000 customers were without power Sunday, and some 21,000 customers remain without power today.

 

Update 12:15 p.m.

The University of Washington Bothell will be opening at 1 p.m. today.

 

A wind storm that ripped through the Puget Sound area on Sunday will continue to have a big impact on Northshore residents today. Gusts were recorded as high as 60 mph, knocking down trees and throwing debris into road ways. Those trees knocked out power to thousands of residents.

According to the Puget Sound Energy website, more than 7,000 customers were without electricity as of 9 a.m. on Monday, and according to Snohomish PUD, an additional 400 customers were without power in northern Bothell.

The Northshore School District has canceled all classes and after-school activities for Monday. Evening activities, athletics, band and orchestra events have also been canceled. UW Bothell, the Eastside Learning Center and Cascadia College in Bothell has also cancelled all classes for Monday morning and will update later for evening classes.

Puget Sound Energy is reporting that 4,314 customers in Bothell and 1,443 customers in Kenmore are still without power as of 6 a.m. on Monday.

PSE states that at the height of the storm 176,000 customers were without power in the Puget Sound area.

The company also reported on Monday morning that 17 of 23 damaged transmission lines have been repaired and all 33 damaged substations have been repaired.

Our crews are working through the night, as conditions allow, to repair damage and restore power as quickly and safely as possible,” a statement read. “Continued high winds could slow restoration efforts. A helicopter is scheduled to patrol our remaining damaged transmission lines tomorrow morning at first light, weather permitting.”
