Local organizers are expecting another record breaking event for the Puget Sound Day of Service. Volunteers are gearing up to work on Sept. 12 at Food Lifeline of Shoreline, to collect donations for Ronald McDonald House in Seattle and on Sept. 8 to donate a pint to Blood Works Northwest, formerly Puget Sound Blood Center.
The Northshore Interfaith Alliance is sponsoring the blood drive and just celebrated its 20th anniversary.

“We have set our target at 140 pints, which will break our previous record,” said organizer Dewey Millar. “The primary reason for the lofty goal being that the Blood Centers’ supplies of blood are critically low right now due to the heat wave and because high schools have been closed for the summer.”

“With just a few more patrons we can break the record and also help the Northshore Interfaith Alliance celebrate their 7,000th donor,” Dewey said. “We are planning some hoopla when that donor comes in and will give them some special recognition – just for fun.”

Schedule an appointment at 425-867-1781, dewmillar@gmail.com or drop in on Sept. 8 from 1-6:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) located at 18860 NE Woodinville-Duvall Rd. in Woodinville.

Ronald McDonald House supplies will be collected on Sept. 12.

“Last year’s donation to Ronald McDonald House provided half a years’ worth of items for their families, which was the largest donation they had ever received,” Keyes said.

Collection sites will be located at Fred Meyer at Thrashers Corner in Bothell and at Haggen and County Market in Woodinville from 9 a.m. to 3.p.m. Donations may also be dropped off during that time at the LDS church located at 16500 124th Ave NE, in Woodinville. Volunteers are invited to come in and organize the items or help load the truck.

Also on Sept. 12, those wanting to help repackage donated bulk foods for distribution can schedule a time at FoodLifeLine.org.
