According to the American Heart Association, one in every 350 young people has an undetected heart condition. The best way to detect these conditions is through a heart screening using an electrocardiogram (electrical test) and echocardiograms (ultrasound test) of the heart.

The screening is painless and takes about 25 minutes. Athletes especially are encouraged to sign up for a cardiac screening.

In the USA, one high-school-aged athlete dies due to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) every three days, most with no symptoms until death.

The Nick of Time Foundation was started in memory of Nick Varrenti, a multisport athlete from Jackson High in Mill Creek who died from SCA.

Nick of Time and its partners, UW Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital, along with support from the Bothell Fire Department and EMS are offering this event to ensure the youth in the community are heart safe.
