Elena Landa of Bothell is coming off a huge best-of-breed win at the famed Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City last month and will be competing at the big Seattle Kennel Club Dog Show March 13-14 in Qwest Field Event Center. Showtimes are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Landa has gone on to become one of the nation’s premier Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier breeders, winning best-of-breed last month for the second consecutive year with 4-year-old Jolie at Westminster, and then retiring her. Jolie (Champion Doubloon’s Ultimate Player) ended her career with 172 best-of-breed wins, the most ever for a Wheaten female. The dog has been trained to compete in agility and tracking, both of which loom in her future.

Jolie has handed off the show baton to 1-year-old Morton (Champion Doubloon’s Salt of the Earth) for the Seattle show.

“Judges have told me this young dog has the same potential as Jolie,” says Landa. “Now it’s time to begin seeing what he can do.”

The Seattle Dog Show has 1,884 entries each day of the two-day show. Competition is also scheduled in obedience, rally, junior showmanship and agility both days. Special demonstrations are scheduled for herding, Frisbee, military working dogs, dancing dogs and the Seattle Police Department K-9 retired unit.

Numerous breeds will be featured in the popular Meet the Breeds segment. The dogs will be showcased by knowledgeable owner/handlers who will discuss their temperaments, size and exercise requirements and answer the public’s questions.

More than 70 vendors with thousands of products on sale will be on hand.

Ticket prices are adults, $10; seniors 62 and over, $5; juniors 4-14, $5; children 4 and under, free.
