A new round of results from from the state-wide primary election were posted by King and Snohomish Counties on Saturday afternoon. Guy Palumbo (D) continued to widen his lead over Rep. Luis Moscoso (D) for the second spot in the general election running for the 1st District Senate seat.

Palumbo (31.02 percent or 8,661 votes) now has a 687 vote lead over Moscoso (28.56 percent or 7,974 votes) in the newest primary results. Both Palumbo and Moscoso are registered Democrats and the winner will challenge Republican Mindie Wirth, who has 11,215 votes or 40.17 percent in the primary race. On election night, Palumbo was narrowly trailing Moscoso by 1 percent in the first returns but has since take the lead and subsequently widened that lead as new results were released.

The top two candidates move on to the general election in November to see who will take over for the retiring Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe (D). More ballot returns are being counted and those results will be released later today.

The primary also included races for the two House seats from the 1st District. Position 1 incumbent Rep. Derek Stanford (D) has garnered 13,514 votes or 49.27 percent in the four-person primary and will be challenged by Neil Thannisch (R). Thannisch has 23.93 percent or 6,565, while Brian M. Travis (R) has nearly 15 percent and Kazuaki (Kaz) Sugiyama (D) has a little more than 11 percent of the primary vote.

In the race to replace Moscoso for position 2, Republican Jim Langston has 39.90 percent or 10,931 votes and will be challenged by Kirkland City Council member and Democrat Shelley Kloba, who earned 31,27 percent or 8,568 votes in a five-person race. Darshan Rauniyar (D) has 12.59 percent (3,451 votes), Kyoko Matsumoto Wright (D) has 10.11 percent (2,772 votes) and Aaron Moreau-Cook (D) has 6.01 percent (1,649 votes).

Returns also show a victory for Public Hospital District No. 2 Proposition 1 with 74.69 percent voting to expand the District’s board which governs EvergreenHealth hospital from five members to seven.
