The Northshore Summit Park is now ready for community use.

The 3.6-acre park is Kenmore’s eighth city park and features picnic tables and benches, children’s play equipment, landscaping, pathways and trails, entry signage and wetland enhancements. It is located at 6200 NE 193rd St.

A $20,000 Let’s Play City Construction Grant from Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit, assisted Kenmore in securing the playground equipment. KaBOOM! ranked Kenmore as a 2014 Playful City USA for its local policies and programs to increase play opportunities for children. Additionally, Kenmore is a 2013 honoree from the Let’s Move! Cities, Towns and Counties program for helping young people eat healthy and be physically active.

A community-built playground, the public helped construct and assemble the playground equipment. On February 15, 40 adults and children rallied to build the Northshore Summit Park, a shared neighborhood investment between the City and community.

“Public involvement was key in bringing the Northshore Summit Park to Kenmore,” said City of Kenmore Mayor David Baker. “The park will be a community asset that will engage residents and visitors for years to come.”

The Kenmore City Council recently adopted the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan outlining plans for future parks, recreation and open space through 2035. Over the next 22 years, Kenmore will continue to develop a network of parks, trails, opens spaces and recreational facilities that provide opportunities for waterfront access and passive and active play. Since 2003, the City has invested over $4 million in park-related projects.

City staff say the Northshore Summit Park will further the community’s vision for a vibrant Kenmore that is active and family-friendly.
