King County Flood Control District approves grant for Kenmore project

This week the King County Flood Control District approved a substantial grant to the City of Kenmore for the replacement of the 192nd Street Culvert Replacement Project.

This week the King County Flood Control District approved a substantial grant to the City of Kenmore for the replacement of the 192nd Street Culvert Replacement Project.

Little Swamp Creek regularly exceeds the capacity of the existing culvert and floods over the roadway of 192nd Street in Kenmore.  The city will replace that existing culvert with one of greater capacity. In addition, the new culvert will now meet the fish passable standards of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“I appreciate the opportunity to thank both Supervisor Dembowski and the Flood Control District for this generous grant and I look forward to putting it to good use to further our efforts at flood control in the City of Kenmore,” said David Baker, Mayor.

The $330,000 grant awarded to Kenmore is one of the largest of the 15 flood control grants awarded this year by the Flood Control District.

“I was pleased to support the City of Kenmore’s application for this important flood control project,” said Flood Control Supervisor Rod Dembowski.  “This culvert replacement project in Kenmore is not only vital for helping to mitigate recurring flooding on an important transportation connection in the north part of King County, but will also aid the restoration of fish passage in the Swamp Creek drainage basin – a separate and significant environmental benefit.”
