The city of Kenmore will host an open house for residents to preview renovation plans for Moorlands Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Moorlands Elementary School library.
“We’re really excited to finally get to it,” Kenmore Parks Project Manager Ann Stanton said of the plans, as the park, built as Inglemoor Park in 1949, has never gone under any major renovations. “Sixty years later, it’s probably time.”
The Moorlands Park project, which has been developed with help from design firm Macleod Reckord, includes ballfield renovation, a new picnic shelter and play area upgrades. The renovations will total $1,666,925, with $637,520 of the cost funded through two grants from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office. The remaining funds will come from the city.
Construction is estimated to begin when school lets out in June 2017 and last through November, during which time the park will be closed. In addition, in order for the grass to grow on the updated ballfield, Stanton said, it will be closed from June 2017 to February 2019, so soccer and slow pitch teams will need to relocate their practices and games.
However, access across the park will be maintained throughout the project between Moorlands Elementary and First Romanian Pentecostal Church for student pick up and drop off, according to a release from the city.
