Kenmore to host open house for stormwater code updates

A public hearing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 at Kenmore City Hall for the community to review proposed changes to the city's development-related codes, rules and standards that integrate low-impact development (LID) principles and best management practices (BMPs) for stormwater.

A public hearing will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 at Kenmore City Hall for the community to review proposed changes to the city’s development-related codes, rules and standards that integrate low-impact development (LID) principles and best management practices (BMPs) for stormwater.

These updates are required under the NPDES Municipal Stormwater Permit and should be in place by Dec. 31. The revisions are designed to minimize impervious surfaces, native vegetation loss and stormwater runoff in all types of development situations. City employees are working with the firm AHBL to revise the codes and standards.

“We’re looking at applying things when they’re feasible and to the maximum extent practical,” Richard Sawyer, Kenmore’s surface water program manager and the project manager for the revisions, said.

A presentation on the changes was given at Monday’s Kenmore City Council meeting by Sawyer and Wayne Carlson, project manager for AHBL, and can be seen on the city’s website, kenmorewa.gov. Two documents listing the proposed changes also can be found there, in addition to a document listing the basics of the revision plan.
