While the Carole Ann Wald Memorial Pool in St. Edward State Park reopened its doors late last month, new facility operator West Coast Aquatics plans a grand-opening celebration at 1 p.m. June 6.
West Coast Program Manager Catherine Gundlach said a ceremonial ribbon cutting and some recognition of local leaders will take place at 1 p.m. The public can take advantage of a free open swim from 2-8 p.m.
Gundlach also mentioned cake, “prizes and fun stuff.”
Additionally, the nonprofit West Coast Center has announced a few of the programs that will be available at the Wald pool.
During the upcoming summer months, West Coast will offer “Fish Swim” youth swimming lessons with five levels of instruction, ranging from “minnows” to “sharks.” All classes are 30 minutes long and held on weekdays and weekends. The classes carry a maximum student to instructor ratio of 5:1.
For youth courses, parents are invited to watch, but are not allowed in the pool with their children. Cost is $75 per session.
West Coast also plans water aerobic classes, both in shallow and deep water. Classes are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with times varying depending on the class. Fees are $5 per class with a five-class punch card available for $20.
