The situation began with a male driver trying to run down a Bothell police officer, investigators say, and ended with police apprehending the man in a Bothell back yard, just south of the Mill Creek Highlands neighborhood.

Last Tuesday at about 3:50 p.m., the officer pulled over the driver, later identified as Joseph Medoro, 31, on 228th Street.

According to Shari Ireton, director of communications for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, the officer said Medoro tried to run him down, the officer shot at Medoro’s car and then chased him into the aforementioned neighborhood.

Not long after, Bothell resident Erik Kraft noted in a letter to the editor to the Reporter: “There was a SnoCo Sheriff’s helicopter circling the neighborhood and above my house, and above the wood trails across the street/cul-de-sac from my house. The Bothell PD and the SnoCo Sheriffs searched our neighborhood, our back yards and those woods and found the suspect. During this time, our daughter (and myself) were excited and concerned.”

Medoro was arrested and booked into jail, Ireton said. According to state Department of Corrections records, Medoro has two convictions for attempting to elude police among his 11 felonies, according to the Everett Herald.

Next up in the investigation is locating witnesses to the traffic stop, in order to determine whether it was necessary for the officer to fire at Medoro, Ireton said.

“Whenever there’s a shooting situation, a multi-jurisdiction team investigates,” Ireton said of the Snohomish County Multi-agency Response Team (SMART). “We’re trying to get as much third-party information to build the investigation.”
